Continuous Design is…

What is a Continuous Design project? I added the determiner “a” and “project” after some years, finding it presumptuous to define Continuous Design. Who can claim such a broad and evolving concept?

If you Google it, the definition today is not the same as it was yesterday, figuratively speaking. I’ve been checking, to see if it will remain free to be many things to those who contemplate it.

It first came into my consciousness in 2013, while designing a visual editor for creating software applications. The enterprise software industry had developed a vision for delivering software faster to better respond to customers needs, and called this ideal Continuous Delivery.

It soon occurred to me: “If delivering software is accelerated, designing it will have to stay in step. Continuous delivery calls for Continuous Design. What would that mean for me as a designer?“.
